Surviving the Coming
Zombie Apocalypse:
Disasters, Catastrophes, and Human Behavior
Surviving the Coming Zombie Apocalypse: Disasters, Catastrophes, and Human Behavior is a large scale immersive experience that combines online and in person participatory elements through narrative worldbuilding and social simulation. Created by a collaborative team including Glenn Stutzky, Christopher Irvin, and Keesa Johnson, the project situates participants within a fictional world shaped by pandemic collapse, where survival, cooperation, and ethical decision making structure the experience.
Operating as a participatory system rather than a fixed storyline, the project unfolds across digital platforms and live activations. Participants form Survivor Groups, navigate speculative environments, and confront both external threats and internal group dynamics. Zombies function as a metaphor for systemic breakdown, allowing the simulation to examine collective behavior under conditions of uncertainty and crisis.
The experience integrated social media platforms including X, Facebook, and YouTube with live events and real time interaction, dissolving the boundary between fiction and everyday life. As Art Director, Christopher Irvin shaped the visual language, narrative structure, and experiential cohesion across both digital and physical contexts.
The project received national and international media coverage and multiple American Advertising Awards, recognized for its innovative integration of immersive storytelling, participatory design, and cross platform engagement.
